Background

  • These guidelines apply to adults
  • Have a high index of suspicion in children (Hx difficult, may present with drooling / stridor / distress alone)
  • Record Past Med Hx (especially, weight loss, strictures, smoking, alcohol, lymphadenopathy)
  • Compete and document thorough examination of oropharynx, hypo-pharynx, lymph nodes and chest in all
  • Lateral neck x-rays are rarely indicated in patients presenting with a ? fish bone impacted in pharynx [BestBets].
