Community Intervention Team (CIT) Details


Inclusion criteria

  • 16km radius of Cork, Mallow, Midleton
  • 32km radius of Cork, Mallow, Midleton for IV antibiotics
  • Patients referred for IV antibiotics must be administered with two doses IV prior to CIT commencing
  • Treatment centre available to those living outside catchment area
  • Patients remain under the clin. governance of the referring clinician

Exclusion criteria

  • Chronic illness requiring more than 72hrs treatment (excluding IV antibiotics)
  • A patient experiencing an acute episode of mental illness
  • IV fluids and blood transfusions
  • Under the influence of illicit drugs or alcohol
  • Under 16 years of age
  • Residents outside the catchment area and unable to travel to treatment centre

CIT services

  • IV antibiotics (32km from Cork city, Midleton, Mallow)
  • Line care - PVC’s, PICCs (including removal), CVCs
  • Venepuncture and phlebotomy
  • Medication management
  • Nurse monitoring following fractures / falls / surgery
  • Dressings and acute wound care
  • Stoma care and education
  • Sub-cut therapy and education
  • Catheter care - Female/SPC re-catheterisation
  • Nursing care to support end of life care - Palliative
  • Management of enteral feeding - PEG tubes
  • Home support
