ALL Patients with haematology or clotting disorders are high risk patients.
ED staff (either triage nurse or SHO) should contact the on call haematology team if any patients meeting the below criteria attend the ED:
- Sickling disorder (patient should have a card)
- Inherited bleeding or thrombotic disorder (Haemophilia, Von Willibrand's)
- Present or recent (< 5 years) Hx of leukaemia, non Hodgkin's lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease or myeloma
- Known low platelet count
- Known low white cell count
- Hx of bone marrow or stem cell transplant
Expected actions from the haematology team
- Specialist nursing advice alone
- Haematology nurse may come to see patient in ED
- Referral to haematology SpR or Consultant
