6 - 8 mls of 2% plain Lignocaine is injected through the dorsum of the lower forearm into the fracture site (not into the wrist). You should pull back the plunger of the syringe to make sure fresh blood is aspirated. If the ulnar styloid is also fractured, 2 - 3 mls is also injected into this area.

The anaesthesia is complete in about 10 minutes.


Beware

This procedure is not suitable for fractures with marked displacement. Supplement this analgesia with Entonox and positive speaking. Apply a minimum of 2 minute of traction to the Colle’s before manipulating it.
