Abdominal Pain in Pregnancy


Any woman with low abdominal pain in early pregnancy should be discussed with the on-call gynae team.

Not all abdominal pain is pregnancy related.

Pregnancy related pain

  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Contractions
  • Foetal parts
  • Abruption
  • Fibroids
  • Round ligament strain
  • Ligamentous
  • Epigastric pain

Non-pregnancy related pain

  • Bowels
  • UTI
  • Appendicitis (higher than expected)
  • Renal colic unusual
