Paediatric PEP

Paediatric PEP in CUH

Procedure

If after clinical examination the child is considered to be at risk of exposure, the treating doctor should contact the Infectious Diseases team in Crumlin. The ID team in CUH will not accept referrals for paediatric patients and therefore should not be contacted.

The ID team in Crumlin will then advise on a course of treatment based on the attached guidelines.

Medications

There is a full treatment course, stored in CUH pharmacy (not ED)

The ED CNM should contact the ADON (if out of hours) who will access the drugs in pharmacy and bring them to the department.

The child will be issued with the full course of treatment (unlike adults who receive 7 days and return to clinic). They will be contacted by Crumlin regarding a clinic appointment. They should be advised to bring their medications with them to the Crumlin ID clinic.
