RSI Kit Dump

Background

RSI Kit preparation
  • The kit dump provides visual instruction of which equipment to lay out as routine during any intubation
  • It moves from right-to-left, putting the frequently used equipment closer to the intubator
  • We have decided to use the vortexapproach.org/ approach to match the cart drawers
  • The picture above on the kit dump are of our current equipment
  • It is job of the airway assistant to lay out the equipment on the kit dump when preparing for an intubation
  • Not all possible equipment needs to be laid out at once e.g. calculate likely sizes for extra endo-tracheal tubes and adjuncts (oro- and naso-pharygneal airways) so they can be taken from the drawer rapidly if required
  • The surgical airway kit just needs to be visualised as being in the bottom drawer, only removed if likely to be needed
  • Approach to each intubation will vary depending on the patient and clinical situation. The kit is just a guide to laying out the standard equipment the same way every time
