Iliotibila band syndrome - ITBS



Background

  • Commonest cause lateral knee pain in runners
  • overuse - repetative friction of ITB on lat. fem. condyle

Clinical

  • Pain worse when foot hits the ground
  • Recent increase in training (distance) or downhill running?
  • Dx with history and positive Ober's test

Investigations

  • None required

Management

  • Initial relative rest, RICE, NSAIDs
  • ITB stretching - physio referral
