Option 1

Assessment in CUH today by a nurse who specialises in helping people who drink in a way that is harmful to their health.

Your nurse/doctor will arrange this for you. The Liaison Mental Health Nurse will carry out an assessment that will take about half an hour. The outcome of this will be:
In most cases

  • Giving you practical help, information and advice
  • Referring you local voluntary services
  • Giving support and advice to you and if you wish, your carers

In some cases

  • Referring you onto the local Addiction Treatment centre
  • Help you access a suitable residential service

Assessment as an outpatient in an alcohol treatment service near where you live. These services prefer if you contact them yourself. Here are the contact details:

Attending a residential alcohol treatment centre. You will contact these services yourself and you may also need a letter from your doctor. Here are the contact details:

You would like more information but do not want to attend an alcohol treatment service. Your nurse/doctor will be able to give you feedback about the effects of your drinking on your health. AA, a voluntary service, will give you more information.

Option 5

Your relative / carer would like further information. Your nurse/doctor will be able to give them feedback about the effects of your drinking on your health but only with your consent.

Voluntary services can give more information and support.
