Background

  • Follow ALTS approach - beware of other injuries
  • Analgesia
  • Higher classification = more contamination, higher neurovascular risk
  • Higher classification = ↑↑risk infection
  • Repeated secondary assessment (NV status)
  • Early antibiotics
  • Remove gross contamination but do not irrigate (needs theatre)
  • Betadine dressing and early immobilisation
