Truvada
- Truvada is a combination of 2 drugs tenofovir & emtricitabine
- These are both Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NRTIs)
- Generally, two NRTIs are used in all triple therapy (HAART) drug combinations
- Take ONE truvada tablet ONCE daily
- Truvada is usually taken with food
Isentress
- Isentress is an integrase inhibitor & contains raltegravir
- Take ONE Isentress tablet TWICE daily approx. 12 hours apart
- There are no food restrictions with this drug
- Tablets should be swallowed whole (not chewed, broken or crushed)
Side effects
Side effects with both Truvada and Isentress are generally mild.
Some patients may experience:
- Mild headache
- Feel nauseous
- Stomach cramps
- Rash
- Tiredness
- Diarrhoea
- Vomiting
